The synthetic hot and cold packs they offer for sale today cannot compare to wheat bags. Whether you are looking for something hot or cold, wheat bags can do both with great performance. So just what are they, and where do I get them?

Wheat bags are simply bags with wheat inside them. If you plan on heating your wheat bag, I recommend that you use natural untreated wheat. If the wheat has been treated with any type of chemicals, it may leech out when heated. But of course this also goes with any type of food or plastics. You may also have heard of them being referred as oatmeal bags. But in fact, oatmeal and wheat are two different grains. Although oatmeal does work well to retain heat, wheat seems to do a better job.

They are commonly used for treating aches and pains throughout your body. Not only are they used at home, but they are also used in hospitals. Even professional athlete’s use wheat bags to treat sports related injuries. Here is a quick list of common uses:

1.    Use it to relieve neck and shoulder tension. A warm bag can help blood flow to that area and loosen up your muscles.

2.    If your feet are cold you can use a warm wheat bags to help heat them up. After they are heated, many wheat bags will retain heat for up to 30 minutes.

3.    If you have ever needed a cold pack to cover your eyes or cool a fever, you can do the exact same thing with a wheat bag. Put it in the freezer for a couple of hours and apply. If the wheat bag is too cold when it comes out of the freezer you can wrap it in bed sheet to help take the chill off.

4.    Almost everyone experiences back pain in their life. The benefit of using a wheat bags for back pain is that they are so versatile. If you make your own you can make it as big or as small as you like. But keep in mind that it will need to fit in your microwave if you plan on heating it.

You can buy professionally made wheat bags on Amazon.com or similar websites but you can also make your own. All you need to do is fill a cotton fabric bag with 100% wheat. The smaller and finer the wheat, the nicer it will feel. However, if the wheat is the consistency of sand, it will lose heat extremely fast. If the wheat is similar to the size of oatmeal you are good to go.

Some wheat bags can be bought with scents added to them such as lavender. These can also add another element of relaxation by the smell. Again, if you choose to use a scented bag look for one that uses natural scents rather than synthetic.

You don’t need to spend a fortune on a technologically advanced hot pack. Wheat bags have been around for a long time and are here to stay. However, it can be a bit difficult to locate them in your city so please browse online or make your own.
